Mission and Vision

MISSION

The mission of the Faculty of Civil Engineering – Skopje is created and carried out by the bodies and committees of the Faculty, the teaching and associate staff, the students and the services. Besides the Faculty, the bodies and committees of the University, the relevant ministries and the entities cooperating in the fields of civil engineering, geodesy and geotechnics, as well as other related scientific, research and professional domestic and international institutions that are partners of the Faculty, are expected to contribute to the realisation of the mission.

“The mission of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, as the only higher education and scientific research institution of this kind in the Republic of North Macedonia, is to dedicate its full potential to educating future engineers and to advancing knowledge and achievements in the fields of civil engineering, geodesy and geotechnics.”“

We can fulfil the mission of the Faculty only through dedicated work and activities in several key directions.

First, the Faculty will continue to provide high-quality education and training in all civil engineering disciplines, equipping students with the knowledge, skills and ethical foundation needed for a successful career.

Second, with the support of European programmes and funds, state-of-the-art research will be enabled that pushes the boundaries of science and professional achievement in civil engineering, contributing to solutions for societal challenges and offering students opportunities for research and further development.

Third, the Faculty will serve the community and the profession through expertise, consultancy and outreach programmes. Fourth, the Faculty will encourage and stimulate the innovative and creative spirit, fostering the development of new technologies and methods for addressing both present and future societal and professional challenges.

Finally, the mission of the Faculty of Civil Engineering has been, and will remain, to educate highly competent engineers prepared to design and build future infrastructure and maintain the existing civil engineering infrastructure, while at the same time advancing knowledge through research and serving society by providing expertise and innovation in the development of the profession.

VISION

Following modern educational and scientific trends in higher education, as well as the development of academic institutions in the region and beyond, I believe that:

“The vision of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Skopje is to be a leading centre of excellence in education, research and innovation, fostering the sustainable development of the profession and addressing global engineering challenges for the betterment of society.”

The vision is primarily aimed at ensuring independence, autonomy and sustainability, building on past achievements, and accelerating development in the educational process, scientific contribution, raising professional standards, etc. Accordingly, I see the Faculty of Civil Engineering in the future as a modern higher education and scientific institution that will stand shoulder to shoulder with the universities in its neighbourhood and, more broadly, with those of the European Union. Fulfilling this vision will entail:

  • Quality education and research: To be a leading centre of excellence in education and research in civil engineering, geodesy and geotechnics, at both national and international level, which includes attracting top students and researchers who will deliver high-quality scientific and professional achievements.
  • Excellence, innovation and leadership:: To be a centre of excellence, a place where work on innovation in civil engineering, geodesy and geotechnics is constant, developing new technologies, methods and solutions for addressing new challenges; this also implies institutional involvement in societal processes by nurturing a culture of creativity and entrepreneurship.
  • Social responsibility and support for societal processes: To act beyond institutional frameworks by taking part in the work of various social platforms, and to strive for a significant and positive impact on society through contributing to sustainable infrastructure development, improved quality of life and solutions to critical infrastructure challenges.
  • Wider recognition:: To achieve greater international recognition for the Faculty's study programmes, research and expertise. This can be achieved by increasing participation in international collaborations, student exchange and publications in top-ranked journals.
  • Creating a qualified engineering workforce: To educate high-quality professionals with core and extended knowledge, competence and skills in the relevant specialisation, equipped to meet the modern demands of the profession and market trends.

STRATEGY FOR QUALITY AND DEVELOPMENT

Managing a higher education institution such as the Faculty of Civil Engineering – Skopje is a serious obligation that brings many challenges and responsibilities. Therefore, for successful leadership and action in several directions or fields with visible results within a given period, the first and foremost requirement is the adoption of a long-term strategy for quality and development that should define strategic and specific goals, as well as appropriate measures and activities. Accordingly, I will advocate for this very document to be one of the first adopted by the new Dean's Board of the Faculty. This strategy should consist of short-term and long-term measures that will address all the challenges and, even more importantly, offer appropriate solutions. The bodies and the commission for the development and improvement of the work of the Faculty of Civil Engineering will be responsible for preparing it, and it will be based on the Faculty's previous Self-Evaluation Reports. It should serve as a kind of action plan that will be accepted and followed by all subsequent administrations of the Faculty. At the same time, we undertake the obligation that the success of our work be assessed according to this strategic document and the commitments arising from it. The strategy will define the priorities for action in the coming period, and will also propose specific measures, among which some of the following will find their place.
